Expansion into Washington, D.C.
The Company opened its Washington, D.C. regional office in November 1979 to pursue development and acquisitions and to provide real estate services in Greater Washington, D.C., including the Northern Virginia and suburban Maryland real estate markets.

Constructed 1.0 Million Square Foot U.S. News & World Report Mixed-Use Development in Washingon, D.C.

Expansion to Midtown Manhattan
Boston Properties expanded the Company's operations to New York City and focused on midtown Manhattan as desirable for new development. The Company identified a key site at 599 Lexington Avenue.

Completed U.S. International Trade Commission Building
A 244,000 square foot office building in Washington, D.C.
1988- 1995
Response to Market Conditions
Skyrocketing land prices, absence of market discipline and concern about feasibility convinced BP to cease speculative development; Attention was redirected to major institutional build-to-suits - NASA headquarters, The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency - and major development fee assignments - Thurgood Marshall Federal Judiciary Building, Heath Care Finance Administration, U.S. Postal Service, and NIH Clinical Research Center.
